CONVOCATION offers multi-faceted funeral doom or death doom for dark days. They add strings, female choirs or organs to make the heavy, epic songs more interesting and it works. There are many things to discover with each repeat and it is easy to drown into the dense atmosphere. I only miss some more repetitive themes to make the long tracks stay in mind. Check the opener or "Lepers and Derelicts".

Something like Below the Sun 🖤 but way heavier ofc... and it has cello and stuff... and fantastic vocals... and I, who wouldn't touch funeral things even with a stick, love how it goes from multilayered deathdoom to practically funeral doom as it develops and then back again... Huge!

I've been waiting for this album for a couple years now and I'm blown away. these doomsters take what was an already bleak sound and push it further down the void. Ambitious and expansive with songs that will drop a mountain onto your head.

Convocation have always been something special, and this album drives that home in some style. What is a doom metal album? If your expectations are just, "slow", well then prepare to have your mind expanded. Don't get me wrong, it is fairly slow. But with choral elements, strings, multiple vocals styles, organ swells, and lots of calamitous beauty, this isn't your typical dirge. Rarely does a doom record, even at 48 minutes, feel refreshingly short.

Solemn and majestic yet bleakest as ever, CONVOCATION are back with their mesmerizing funereal vibes and their most ambitious work to date!
2016, Helsinki, Finland.
Convocation started as a death metal project that later developed more close to darker doomish soundscapes, an outlet for really heavy and slow music with the will to experiment including synths, organs etc.
This brought in 2017 the release of the 4 apocalyptic anthems comprised in "Scars Across".
Three years later Convocation came back with the grandeur of “Ashes Coalesce”, an aural study of concepts encircling death.
2023 is finally the year for a third chapter.
For fans of Skepticism, Evoken, Atramentus, Esoteric.

The album description mentions an “emotional apex.” That’s really the difference between Stare and the band’s previous albums. Ulcerate was always supremely technically proficient. I just didn’t care all that much. Their growth has come from making music you will feel.
